Dettifoss is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe, located in Iceland's Northeastern Region. This awe-inspiring natural wonder is part of the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river, which flows from the mighty Vatnajökull glacier. With a drop of 44 meters and a width of 100 meters, Dettifoss showcases a spectacular and thunderous display of nature's raw power.

The main attraction of Dettifoss is its sheer size and the immense volume of water crashing down the rocky precipice. The waterfall's relentless force creates an incredible misty spray that can be seen from a great distance, adding to its dramatic appeal. The black basalt surroundings provide a stark contrast to the churning white waters, making it a favorite location for photographers and filmmakers, including its feature in the science fiction film, Prometheus.

Located within the Vatnajökull National Park, Dettifoss is accessible from both the east and west banks via Route 864 and Route 862 respectively. The west bank offers well-maintained walking paths and viewing platforms for closer observation. The surrounding area is also home to other significant waterfalls such as Selfoss and Hafragilsfoss, offering visitors a comprehensive experience of Iceland's majestic cascades.
